Art Exhibit: Buck Christensen

A Theft in the Garden

Minimalistic Floral Portraits by Buck Christensen

Saturday, June 21 through Saturday, September 13, 2014
9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily

About the exhibit

Buck Christensen can spend hours with a single flower, exploring the way its expression changes with every new pose, every slight adjustment in perspective. The slow and deliberate process in the changing light, with shifting shadows, is fascinating to him. As evidenced by the minimalist compositions in this collection, Christensen is rarely satisfied with anything more than a single flower against the sterility of a white background—an uncluttered stage.

About the artist

Buck Christensen is a photographer, writer, and editor in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he lives with his wife and young daughter. Somewhere during life's journey, he developed a passion for storytelling, first with the pen and then with the pixel. His photography found its roots through his travels.

In 2009, Buck began studying photographic technique in an effort to become a better photographic storyteller. That same year, he started sharing his work online. By January 2012, he was exhibiting his prints around Council Bluffs.

Buck enjoys the challenge of finding the beauty in the pedestrian, often shirking the traditional for the unusual and always searching for the subject's essential parts. Something as simple as the gesture of a single flower languishing in a vase on a window sill is a story that he loves to retell through his photography. His primary photographic interests include landscapes and flowers.
