Back by popular demand, the Glee Handbell
Choir from Meiji Gakuin Higashimurayama
High School in Tokyo, Japan will present two concerts at Lauritzen Gardens on
Monday, July 31. Concerts will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:30
p.m. and will include pieces by Bizet, Schönberg,
Joplin, and Gershwin, among others. The choir is recognized as a leading handbell choir in Japan and is led by directors Mr.
Kazuyoshi Inagaki and Mr. Takanobu Onoda.
The Glee Handbell Choir has been part
of Meiji Gakuin since 1981. The ensemble tours the
United States biennially and last performed in Omaha in 2015. The choir's
five-week tour takes them to locations throughout the United States. In each
city they visit, the choir members will present concerts, sight-see, and get
acquainted with American culture via host families.
Performances will take place in the great hall. It is included
with garden admission ($10 adults, $5 children 6-12, free for children under
6). Lauritzen Gardens members enjoy free general admission.
