Exciting changes are happening and new opportunities are being developed in our education department at Lauritzen Gardens! We recognize that our day-to-day lives have changed greatly in the past year and education is no different. Please take a look at some of our new offerings as well as some of our upcoming projects. VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS Take a field trip to some of our most popular garden areas! · Videos featuring Lauritzen Gardens' beautiful spaces, as well as our education staff discussing some common plant topics will be posted on the garden's YouTube channel, youtube.com/lauritzengardens · Additional links will be included in the content for lesson plans for extension, as well as technology-based games, activities, and presentations to accommodate all learners. · Stay tuned for more options are development of these field trips continues! Virtual Field trip to the Marjorie K. Daugherty Conservatory This field trip and accompanying lesson plans will explore the adaptations of tropical rainforest plants. Students will also discover the role of the tropical rainforest ecosystems and all that they have to offer our world. https://youtu.be/yNfCcUHnM3g >> COMING SOON… GARDEN ON THE GO TRUNKS Four trunks will be available soon for elementary teachers (K-2 or 3-5) to check out and bring back to their classrooms. Trunks will include lesson plans and materials for use in formal and informal classroom settings as stand-alone programs or curriculum supplements. · Topics for the first set of trunks will be plant adaptations and pollination. Stay tuned for additional topics and a release date! CLASSROOM OUTREACH Is there a garden-based topic that you want help teaching? Stay tuned for Lauritzen Gardens' in-person outreach programs. Teachers will be able to request a date, time, and topic that fits their schedule and curriculum. Education staff will then join you in your classroom to bring the topic to life for your students. ZOOM OR MICROSOFT TEAMS PROGRAMMING A garden educator will "visit" your class via Zoom or Microsoft Teams and teach a garden-based topic to you and your students.
