Garden in the Glen
The Garden in the Glen provides a calming space with deep shade and a quiet stream with pools and small waterfalls. Along with astilbe, bleeding heart, ferns and Japanese maple, a historic collection of locally bred hostas is displayed.

This valley, or glen, includes a 300-foot-long stream meandering through the existing stand of black locust. With the trees providing shade, the stream and upland plantings provide the garden visitor with an experience that is very different from our more typical sunny garden spaces.

This garden's hosta collection features cultivars bred here in Omaha over the past 30 years. These cultivars include ‘Ahamo Gold,’ ‘Aksarben,’ ‘Ruffled Petticoats,’ and ‘White Lightning.’

Other terrestrial plants include sugar maple, Saskatoon serviceberry, beech, witchhazel, rhododendron, azalea, smooth sumac and arborvitae. Aquatic plants include bog arum, sedge, scouring rush, yellow flag iris and frog fruit.
Garden seating areas and the sounds of the stream and visiting birds provide a tranquil setting for inner reflection.
