Garden of Memories
The Garden of Memories serves as a symbolic space for the celebration of life’s milestones – anniversaries, weddings, friendships, birthdays and the passing of loved ones. The garden site is located at the base of a hillside just south of the Song of the Lark Meadow along the spring flowering walk.

It is hoped that visitors to this peaceful place experience a sanctuary for reflective thought, a sense of renewal and joy through remembering. Its location provides one of the quietest spaces within the garden’s 100 acres as it is nestled by the surrounding hillside.

Visitors to the Garden of Memories pass through three distinct sections, representative of stages of life, within the garden. A primary feature of the garden is a 40-foot-wide half-circle reflecting pool – the largest formal water feature at Lauritzen Gardens. A bronze sculpture, by Kent Ullberg, of a single Canada goose just beginning to raise its wings into flight will be installed late summer 2009.

The Garden of Memories was designed by Chad Grimm of CG Studios, Inc., based in Jacksonville, Fl.

Also on display in the Garden of Memories is the John A. Gentleman Botanical Memorial, which has been relocated from the spring flowering walk. This memorial has been sponsored over the past ten-plus years by John A. Gentleman Mortuaries.

The Garden of Memories provides an important way for Lauritzen Gardens to recognize and give thanks to the thousands of people who have helped, and continue to help, make the garden a reality. Contribution opportunities are still available.

A memorial or tribute gift to a garden is different than one to any other organization. A garden is alive; ever growing, ever renewing itself, enduring and timeless. It is a place of beauty and serenity; peace and reflection.
